The one like Princess Superstar will dropping tunage in brooklyn for V-day. I realized I didn’t have any recent mixes to post so you get this fantastic one from Halloween 2004.
Big big big things going on this weekend. After a bit of lull in NYC music events this weekend goes off with 2 great shows. Friday night Dexplicit will be jumping the pond to play in NYC for the first time ever on the freakin’ amazing soundsystem @ Love thanks to the now world famous Trouble and Bass guys.
Saturday NYC will be invaded by Canadians Chromeo and A-trak both heavy heavy hitters for both of their respective genre’s. This will be going down at Studio B. (Honestly what other venue kicks as much ass as Studio B)
Tunage? You got it:
Dexplicit - BullaCake
Chromeo - Tendoroni (Marcovitch RMX) via Palms Out
I stumbled across Sub Swara when I first saw the Takeover flyer. Having not heard of them but knowing everyone else on the ticket I realized that there must be some reason why I don’t know who they are. They don’t just jam in a twobit DJ between Secret Night of Science and Trouble and Bass DJs. Like any curious music fan I went to myspace and found some wicked Ragga meets Lo-Fi meets bassline heavy tracks. I thought to myself how did I miss the boat on these guys, this shit is off the hook.
I wanted more! Even though I knew I would be seeing them live on Friday I couldn’t wait. I need to hear a mix, I needed more tracks to get through the rest of the week.
Luckily I got in touch with the Sub Swara folks and got this wondrously melodic bassline heavy hour of tunage.
Those guys over at the west coast music blog Big Stereo are making it over to the Brooklyn for New Years Eve. What are they bringing? Nothing less than an amazing party over at Silent Barn in queens. This one should be a killer considering some of the names performing, especially Todosantos. Check out some youtube vids of them here, here and here.
For you of those who don’t know who/what Silent Barn is check out this post with exclusive XLR8R video of the owners/operators of the performance space.
When I first saw this mix on Discobelle I assumed it was DJ Venom from Boston. A hard house DJ that peaked with the rave scene in 2000 and was like WTF is DJ Venom doing up on Discobelle, no one listens to hard house anymore, and I haven’t seen Venom since 2002 or so. Then I read on an realized that it wasn’t the DJ Venom I knew and loved, but rather a new DJ Venom from the UK that Starkey and Drop the Lime shouted out recently. Cool Stuff!
Check out the mix and hit below the fold for the track listing.(edit: this tracklisting seems off, I wouldn’t trust it with your life or anything) Thanks for the find Discobelle
